Road Safety Video Analytics System

The operator no longer has to watch every screen; the system raises an alarm when something happens.

Current status: Pilot (POC) with municipalities; tested on intersection cameras.

Road Safety Video Analytics System: today's situation compared with the EntropyWork solution

Today

Not every event is caught

The operator watches many cameras by eye.

With EntropyWork

The system catches the event

An alarm and a screenshot reach the operator as it happens.

Schematic illustration; values shown are examples.
The situation today

Institutions today monitor road safety in real time from connected cameras. In addition, if the cameras have their own analytics features, they use those, or alarms coming through VMS (variable message systems).

How it works, in four steps

Pick a step to follow the data from the field to the center.

Step 01

Existing IP cameras

Any brand

Step 02

Network endpoint

Connection provided by the institution

Step 03

Local analysis

Video is processed on site

Step 04

Operator alarm

Instant alert and screenshot

Operating principle
  • The institution gives us a network endpoint; the existing camera infrastructure is not changed.
  • The system connects to the cameras through this network endpoint and starts monitoring the video.
  • The video is analyzed according to the selected analysis categories; processing is done locally on a Jetson Orin NX.
  • When a violation or event is detected, the alarm information and a screenshot are transferred to the center.
  • An instant alert goes to the operator; if the event is critical, notifications are made more frequently.

Only the data needed to provide integration between units is transferred to the center.

Key features

All features
  • Pedestrian, object and tractor detection
  • Detection of whether trucks and large vehicles are in the correct lane
  • Average speed measurement
  • Alarm when there is a pedestrian where there should be none
  • Detection of unidentified objects
  • A low-cost processing unit for up to 6 cameras; for more cameras only a hardware upgrade, the software stays the same
  • Compatibility with all ONVIF-capable cameras and all cameras that deliver video over RTSP

Integration

Integration

The system connects to the existing camera infrastructure through a network endpoint provided by the institution; no changes are made to the camera infrastructure. It works with ONVIF- and RTSP-capable cameras.

SMS, email and mobile application integration is provided if desired. Data is transferred to the center to provide integration between units.

Outputs and reporting

  • Instant alarm and alert to the operator; more frequent notifications for critical events
  • Screenshot of the alarm
  • SMS, email and mobile application integration if desired
Installation and support

Installation

Installation takes about 30 minutes; no physical intervention is made.

Installation time varies by product and site.

Support, maintenance and warranty

  • Remote update is available.
  • Maintenance is performed once a year.

Data and security

  • Images are not recorded; only alarm data is kept.
  • Analysis is performed locally; only the data needed for integration is transferred to the center.
Areas of use
  • KGM
  • Municipalities
  • Highway operators
